When a lockdown situation occurs, the reasons can range from a nearby chemical spill to a volatile armed intruder on the premises. In an emergency lockdown situation, campuses lockdown the building and do not allow anyone in or out. In many situations, the lockdown can go several hours, depriving employees or students access to food, water and restrooms, etc.
