No matter where you live in the world, there is a good chance you reside in an area that has the possibility for some kind of natural or man-made disaster. The first step, and possibly the most important step in getting prepared is purchasing an emergency kit for yourself and your family. Whether it be earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, blizzards, mudslides, nuclear or chemical accidents or even normal power outages, Your Safety Place has designed a line of high quality survival kits that will make your job easy and simple to get prepared!

In the event of a disaster, you cannot rely on government or outside aide for possibly long periods of time. It is more important now than ever that you are self-sufficient and can provide the essential supplies for yourself and your family in the aftermath of a disaster. FEMA recommends that you have a minimum of 3-days supply of emergency food and water. We strongly recommend between 7-14 days of emergency food and water as a minimum. After hurricane Katrina, there were many people who didn't see any form of government aide for as long as a month!

I have bought the kits and supplies, now what do I do? Very simple answer, Make an Emergency Plan!

There are many different things you need to think about and prepare for before a disaster happens. From travel and commuting plans to out of state contacts, there are many different avenues of planning that everyone in your household should discuss. Just like having a fire escape plan, gather your family together and make sure everyone knows what to do Before, During and After an earthquake or any other disaster!

With all the different types of possible disasters out there, there are many different sources of information to pull from and get educated. Please visit our Disaster Preparedness Guides and Information Center for a large list of preparedness ideas and guides for every type of disaster. You can also take the Your Safety Place Preparedness Test to see how prepared you are and what you might still need for supplies.

Continue to educate yourself and your family on any updates before and after a disaster that effect the region where you live. Go to your kid’s schools and make sure that they have properly and adequately prepared themselves to provide for your children. What does your place of employment have on hand for their employees in case of a disaster? Make sure your extended family, friends and neighbors are ready for any emergency.
